Why Can’t I Sleep? Insomnia Is Not Random. Here’s How I Can Help You Sleep Again

Do you remember what it feels like to be yourself?

Not the exhausted version of yourself.

Not the person who wakes up already counting the hours until bedtime.

Not the person who has forgotten what it feels like to have energy.

When you are living with insomnia, it is not just about being tired.

It changes everything.

Your mind feels foggy. Simple decisions suddenly feel overwhelming. You stand in front of the refrigerator trying to decide what you want on your bread, and something that should take seconds feels impossible.

Your emotions feel closer to the surface. You find yourself crying over things that normally wouldn’t affect you. Small frustrations feel enormous because your body is running on empty.

Your legs feel heavy. Your shower becomes the only quiet moment in your day. You drink more coffee than you ever planned because you are just trying to make it through.

Slowly, your world starts getting smaller.

You stop making plans because you don’t know how you will feel tomorrow.

You turn down invitations because you are too exhausted.

Your social life disappears.

Your choices become based around one thing:

Sleep.

You start organizing your entire life around protecting your next night of sleep, before you know it, insomnia is no longer just affecting your nights. It is affecting your days, your relationships, your confidence, and the person you feel like you have become.

If this sounds familiar, I want you to know something important:

You were born knowing how to sleep.

Sleep is a natural process. Your body has not forgotten how to sleep.

But when sleep becomes a struggle, there is usually a reason.

Insomnia is not random.

This is where I come in.

I’m Chevy Mermelstein, an Integrative Sleep Coach, and I help people understand why their sleep has become difficult, what may be keeping them stuck, and how to get back to sleeping naturally again.

So where can sleep issues come from?

Your mind.

Your mind can have a powerful effect on your ability to sleep.

Maybe your thoughts feel like they are on a hamster wheel, constantly going and never slowing down.

Maybe anxiety, stress, or the fear of being awake in the middle of the night keeps your nervous system alert when your body is asking for rest. The fear of how long it will take you to fall asleep, or the fear that you will wake up and not be able to fall back asleep, can make it even harder to settle into sleep. Over time, your brain can begin to associate bedtime and nighttime awakenings with frustration, worry, and alertness instead of rest.

Your body.

Sometimes sleep struggles are connected to what is happening inside your body.

Hormonal changes, cortisol levels, nutritional imbalances, or other physical factors can affect your ability to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up feeling restored. Your body is always communicating with you. The key is learning how to listen to those signals and understand what they mean.

Your behavior.

After struggling with sleep for a long time, it is natural for patterns to develop.

Maybe you start watching the clock.

Maybe you change your schedule constantly trying to “fix” your sleep.

Maybe your nights become focused on doing everything perfectly because you are afraid of another difficult night.

These behaviors are not a sign that you are failing.

They are often your body’s attempt to protect you.

But over time, they can keep you stuck in a cycle of worry and exhaustion.

This is why I take an integrative approach.

I look at the whole picture, your mind, your body, and your behaviors, to understand what may be getting in the way of your natural ability to sleep.

Because sleep is natural.

You were born knowing how to sleep.

With the right understanding and support, you can rebuild trust with your body again.

Imagine waking up and realizing that sleep is no longer the first thing on your mind.

Imagine having the energy to be present with your family, enjoy your relationships, make plans, and say yes to the things you have been missing.

Imagine going on vacation without worrying about how you are going to sleep, whether you will have enough energy the next day, or how you will function away from your normal routine.

Imagine moving through your day without constantly thinking about sleep.

This is possible.

Your life does not have to continue getting smaller because of insomnia. You do not have to spend your nights fighting for sleep and your days recovering from exhaustion.

With the right understanding, support, and a personalized approach, you can rebuild trust with your body and reconnect with your natural ability to sleep.

If you are struggling with insomnia and wondering why nothing seems to be working, I invite you to reach out. https://calendly.com/chevymermelstein/30min
