Round Two with Dalia Brunschwig… and the Comment I Couldn’t Shake

Round two with Dalia Brunschwig was honestly the most fun part of my week.

We answered so many questions based on readers’ feedback, and the conversations were REAL.

One of the biggest topics?

Melatonin and sleeping pills.

I probably get asked about this at least three times a week:

“Is melatonin safe?”

“Can I become dependent?”

“Why can’t I sleep without something?”

We finally gave real answers.

We also got into hormones and sleep, can your sleep issues actually be hormonal?

How do hormones affect sleep? And most importantly… is there something you can actually do about it?

Such a great conversation.

You can listen to the full conversation here: Listen to Round Two with Dalia Brunschwig

But now I want to share the part that stayed with me the most.

Months ago, when Dalia and I were discussing our upcoming talks, she casually mentioned something that honestly shocked me.

For years, she has slept phone-free.

Every single night she leaves her phone in the kitchen and only looks at it in the morning once everyone is out of the house.

I remember thinking: “Wow. I wish I could do that.”

The funny thing is, I preach sleep hygiene all day long. And truthfully, I follow most of my own rules. But this one? Sleeping without my phone next to my bed felt impossible.

I even “dumbed down” my phone. No apps. Only text and email.

Still… I couldn’t break the habit.

I gave myself every excuse in the book: “What if there’s an emergency?”“What if an important email comes in?”

You would think I was the president.

It’s amazing how convincing the mind can be. The excuses don’t even need to be rational.

But Dalia planted a seed.

And deep down I knew: This is something I need to work on.

Because the truth was… if I woke up in the middle of the night, I checked my phone.

Every time.

I actually wrote about this whole experiment while I was going through it, the resistance, the habits, and the small wins.

Then months later, something changed.

I finally had the courage.

And honestly? Dalia’s words were sitting quietly in the back of my mind: “Chevy, you can do it.”

That’s all I needed.

No fancy program. No expensive app — pun intended. Just someone believing in me.

And that’s what I love about Dalia.

She’s human. One of us.

She understands the struggle, and she guides people through it with calm, wisdom, and support.

And now?

Two months later…

I am officially cell-phone free at night.

While writing this email, I actually went back to reread the blogs I wrote during the challenge, and I was shocked by how hard it really was for me. It was a genuine struggle.

But the feeling now?

Honestly…

I feel like an independent sleeper.

And that feels amazing.

If you’re struggling with your sleep or just have questions, you don’t have to figure it out alone. You can book a time with me here:  Book a sleep conversation

I will leave you all with this question:

Have you ever tried sleeping without your phone next to your bed?

If you want to explore more of what Dalia Brunschwig shared, she put together something really special for my readers.

It’s a beautiful sampler from her work in Fully In Balance — simple, grounding, and genuinely helpful if you’re looking to better understand your body and sleep from a more holistic place.

P.S. Stay tuned… Dalia and I will be doing a live back-to-school webinar in September, where we’ll be answering your sleep and nutrition questions together.

If you have any questions or thoughts, we always love to hear from you — just reach out.
